ISLAMABAD: The Customs Collectorate of Islamabad has reportedly collected around Rs 31 million in the form of revenue generated through the auction of seized goods and non-duty paid vehicles.
Assistant Collector Tahir Khattak told Customs Today that the auction staff of the collectorate held the auction of the impounded vehicles, which included Mercedes cars, Honda Hybrid, Toyota, Honda Civic, Toyota Vitz, Alto, Premium and Honda motorbikes, as well as seized goods such as LED TVs, black tea, cloth, food grains, auto parts and cigarettes.
Assistant Collector Tahir said that the bidders deposited 25 percent of the total amount and 10 percent income tax along with the copies of their Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC) at the time of the auction, while successful bidders had to pay the remaining amount within seven days of the auction.
The assistant collector said that there were 160 lots of confiscated goods that were presented for auction. He said that 99 lots out of 160 had been sold, which fetched the Islamabad Customs around Rs 18.7 million.
Tahir told that different kinds of vehicles that were put for sale were sold for around Rs 19 million, adding that a total of 24 impounded vehicles were presented for auction, of which as many as 19 vehicles attracted buyers and fetched good prices.
He said that it is highest revenue collection from the auction held during first four month of current financial year 2016-17, during first 2 auctions were already held in Islamabad. Assistant Collector Tahir said that his department is going to hold another auction during last week of October.
