CYPRUS: Two Kilograms of rolling tobacco and 14 cartons of cigarettes were confiscated by Customs Officials.
Customs officials found the tobacco products in a routine search of a car driven by a 46-year-old Greek Cypriot returning from the north.
Having admitted that he purchased the goods in the north in order to bring them to the south of the island, Customs officials proceeded to confiscate the tobacco products as well as his car.
The corresponding customs and tax duties on the products found, amounted to €1,000.
The case was settled with a cash payment amounting to €1,500, while the vehicle was returned to its owner with an additional payment of €500.
The current limit for possession of cigarettes for people crossing over from the north is two packets per person.
