Customs GPO foils bid to smuggle cannabis buds from Canada

LAHORE: A team of Customs Preventive on Friday foiled a bid to smuggle cannabis buds worth Rs 1 million from Canada through General Post Office (GPO).

Official sources told Customs Today that the customs officials deployed at the GPO recovered cannabis buds from a parcel which was sent from Canada. The parcel was destined to reach a house located in Nisar Road in Cantonment area. The total quantity of the drug was accessed as 80 grams. The customs authorities have sent the drug to a chemical laboratory for its forensic test.

The Customs authorities have started investigations after registering a first information report against the suspects mentioned in the address.

Earlier, the Customs authorities at the GPO recovered marijuana worth Rs 10 million from a parcel which was also sent from Canada to an address in Model Town Lahore. The resident was later identified as Tariq Khan. The teams of customs Investigation and Intelligence are conducting raids to arrest the suspects after registering a case against the suspects.

Sources said after the recent seizure of drugs from parcel, the Customs teams have enhanced their checking to foil any attempt of smuggling through parcels.
