Customs GPO seizes 480g cocaine from parcel worth Rs5m

LAHORE: Customs Preventive team deputed at General Post Office (GPO) successfully confiscated 480 gram fine quality cocaine from a parcel which was booked from Peru.

Sources told Customs Today that Collector Customs Preventive Chaudhary Zulfiqar Ali received credible information about smuggling of narcotics through parcels. He directed Deputy Collector Customs GPO Palwasha Syed to take all necessary measures to foil these attempts. Deputy collector constituted a team comprising Superintendent Nayyer Sultan, Deputy Superintendent Javed Iqbal, Shah Nawaz Langrial, Irfan Leghari and Inspector Ghulam Hussain to check all parcels which are being recieved foreign countries.

During checking of these parcels the team noticed a suspicious parcel bearing no: 616/05/2017 which was booked from Peru. The parcel was filled with ready made garments and two flasks. When Customs team opened the bottles of flasks they found 480 grams of fine quality heroin which was very tactfully hidden inside the bottles of flasks. The market value of seized cocaine is Rs5 million.

During initial investigations it was revealed that the parcel was booked in the name of one Mohammad Asif   who is a resident of Kasur. Customs GPO authorities after registering a case of narcotics smuggling started further investigations to reach actual accused behind this smuggling attempt.

It is necessary to mention here that Collector Customs Preventive Chaudhary Zulfiqar Ali announced to distribute prizes and honorary certificates among the members of the raiding team.
