Multan: Customs Intelligence establishes new checkpoints to curb smuggling

MULTAN: Additional Director Customs Intelligence and Investigation Multan Range office Nisar Ahmad told that strategic checkpoints are established in the areas of Rajanpur and Dera Ghazi Khan to block the movement of smugglers in the region.

Nisar Ahmad told Customs Today that they have developed some new tactics to curb smuggling in the region. The department has deployed permanent field staff in the two districts. The movement of the smugglers was observed continuously through this route, so they have focused the entry and exit points of these regions for the effective surveillance’s against the illicit smuggled goods from across the border.

He disclosed that Intelligence field staff observed that the smugglers were adopting the route of Rajan Pur to Kashmore area for the movement of smuggled goods from Sind to Punjab region and Sibbi to Quetta.

Now the smugglers arrived in the region through Rajan Pur for the supply of smuggled goods and the smugglers are adopting this route due to the strictness of Baluchistan Military Police on the other route for their crackdown, he said.

He told Customs Today that they have requested the District Police Officer Rajan Pur for the assistance against the smuggling and District Police Officer agreed to give them space for strategic checkpoints in the specified region to curtail smuggling.

Customs Intelligence and Investigation is going to establish another check post in the region of Tremann which begins after the Dera Ghazi Khan region with a special strategy to restrain smuggling in the region, he added. For Tremann Check post District Police Officer Dera Ghazi Khan has also agreed to provide space for the establishment of Check points in the requested premises for our operations he added.

He told that this new check points will be mobile posts and they will move from one place to other for the monitoring of the smuggled goods in the region according to the requirement of Customs Intelligence and Investigation.

More cooperation between law enforcement agencies will restrict the movement of smugglers in the region and they have taken some stern initiatives against the illicit movement of smuggled goods in the region he believed.

He thought that Customs Intelligence and Investigation is identifying main spots for establishing ‘Integrated Check-posts’ to clamp down on the smuggling activities in their specified jurisdiction. He said that this move would deter the smuggling operatives from carrying on with their activities and also provide better surveillance through these strategic check-posts.

Meanwhile he said that they are working in a professional manner and committed to curb menace of smuggling from this region .
