Customs I&I detains non duty paid Toyota Crown from Rawalpindi

ISLAMABAD: Directorate General Customs Intelligence and Investigation Federal Board of Revenue Rawalpindi has detained a non-duty paid Toyota Crown Royal Extra car worth Rs 11.127 million.

According to details, on a tip-off, the anti smuggling staff of the Directorate of I&I FBR Rawalpindi, intercepted a non-duty paid Toyota Crown Royal Extra car (Model 2006) bearing fake registration plate no. QK 780 (ICT Islamabad) having chassis no. GRS180 008175 (2499 CC) near Army Check Post, Chour Chowk, Rawalpindi from the possession of one Masood Mohsin.

On demand, the driver or owner of the car failed to produce any evidence regarding legal import or lawful possession of the vehicle. During scrutiny of the record, the Excise and Taxation office and Motor Registration Authority Islamabad data, a BMW Jeep Model 2002, stood registered against the registration no. QK 780 ICT Islamabad. As per the Pakistan Automation Revenue Limited and auction data available with Directorate General , no import and auction entry found against the vehicle Toyota Crown.

The vehicle was initially detained under section 17 of the Custom Act 1969, with the approval of competent authority for further verification of its import and auction status and payment of duty and taxes. When nobody appeared or produce any legal import documents in respect detained vehicle, detention has been converted into seizure under section 168 of customs Act 1969.

A First Information Report (FIR) has been lodged against owner of the non duty paid vehicle who was identified as Masood Mohsin son of Khan Mirza Resident of Chaklala Rawalpindi, under the section 2 (S) and 16 of the Customs Act 1969.
