Customs I&I detains two containers of old spare parts cleared by IDP

ISLAMABAD: Directorate-General Customs Intelligence and Investigation (I&I) DG Zahid Kokhar has said that on credible information his staff has detained two containers of old spare parts cleared by Islamabad dry port.

While talking with Customs Today, he confirmed that he received credible information by his sources that Islamabad dry port has cleared two containers carrying foreign origin spare parts which have some issues of duty taxes. He forwarded number of both vehicles carrying goods to Customs staff, DG Customs Intelligence confirmed.

On pursuing above said information forwarded by DG I&I Islamabad the Customs staff led by Ahmad Maqsood Superintendent along with other staff rushed to Islamabad dry port and detained both the containers identified by the DG and sealed them with official locks.

The superintendent confirmed that “They have detained two containers of 2×20 on secret information of DG I&I Zahid Kokhar”, adding that the containers are loaded with old spare parts and cleared by Customs staff of Islamabad dry port while ‘They asked the Customs staff to re-examine both the consignments’.

Maqsood further informed that 5 days have passed while possessor of containers showed non-availability of labor to open containers for re-examination. He added that ‘we will wait for next one or two days more if the owner of detained consignments does not come here, we will open the containers for re-examination in front of eyewitnesses’.

When this correspondent contacted the officials of Islamabad dry port, they said that owners of consignments have requested to the staff of I&I Islamabad to open the containers for re-examination so they can prevent themselves from surcharge but I&I staff did not come for that purpose.
