Customs I&I foils attempt to smuggle betel nuts from Sakran to Karachi

KARACHI: Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation (I&I) has seized huge quantity of smuggled betel nuts.

Sources told that Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation (I&I) Director Yaqoob Mako received credible information regarding smuggling of betel nuts from Sakran to Karachi.

He immediately directed Additional Director Rana Tasleem to take necessary measures to thwart any attempt of smuggling.

Deputy Director Rana Aftab constituted an anti-smuggling squad under the supervision of Intelligence Officer Muhammad Sadiq to foil attempt of smuggling.

The suspected dumper truck was spotted and intercepted at Gul Bhai, Karachi. The driver of the vehicle identified himself as Farzand Ali. The dumper was loaded with crush stone.

Cursory search led to recovery of betel nut concealed under the crush stone. The driver could not provide any documents to prove legal possession of the goods.

The goods have been seized and FIR is lodged. Further investigations are still in progress till filing of this report.
