Customs I&I foils bid to smuggle Iranian diesel & vehicle worth Rs5.7m

KARACHI: Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation (I&I) team foiled a bid to smuggle 13,000 liters of foreign origin (Iranian) diesel along with trailer (22 wheeler) bearing registration no: NAA-558.

As per details, Customs I&I Director Irfan Javed received specific information that huge quantity of foreign (Iranian) diesel oil would be smuggled via Northern Bypass, Karachi for sale in the city.

He immediately constituted a team which intercepted a trailer (22-wheeler) bearing registration no:  NAA-558 at Northern Bypass near PS Gaddap, Karachi.

During cursory checking on the spot the vehicle was found to be loaded with diesel oil. The driver was asked to produce import/purchase documents verifying its lawful possession and transportation, which he failed to provide. The vehicle was brought to the Directorate for detailed examination against proper documentation, which resulted in recovery of (approximately) 13,000 liters of smuggled/non –duty paid Iranian High Speed Diesel (HSD).

Accordingly, the approximately 13,000 liters of HSD oil valued at Rs1.7 million along with trailer (22 wheeler) worth Rs4 million (total value of seized goods Rs5.7 million) have been seized in terms of Section 168 of Customs Act, 1969.

Further action is still underway till the filing of this report.
