Customs I&I impounds non-duty paid auto parts worth Rs70m from Shadbagh

LAHORE: Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation impounded huge quantity of smuggled auto parts from a warehouse located in Shadbagh. The market value of seized spare parts is Rs70 million.

Sources told Customs Today that Director Intelligence and Investigation Rubab Sikandar received credible information that huge quantity of smuggled auto parts are dumped in a godown located in Shahdara. She immediately constituted anti-smuggling squad under the supervision of Additional Director Mehreen Naseem. The anti-smuggling squad was comprising Superintendent Saifullah, and Intelligence Officers Hamid Babar, Sohail Murtaza, Fida Hussain, Ehtasham Naveed, Nadeem Ahsan, Tipu Sultan.

Sources told that Deputy Director Usman Tariq obtained warrant under Section 162 of the Customs Act, 1969 from the magristrate to raid the said godown. Sources told that in order to conceal the actual description, tag showing description as agriculture and machinery parts were affixed on cartons.

The owner of goods could not provide any record showing import of goods on lawful purchaser, therefore, the goods have been shifted to the Directorate and process of counting is underway.
