Customs I&I impounds Land Cruiser worth Rs 16m V8 from Liberty Chowk

LAHORE: Customs Intelligence and Investigation officers have seized non-duty paid Toyota Land Cruiser V8 worth Rs 16 million from Liberty Chowk here, sources told Customs Today.

The sources said that customs officials on information of Customs I&I Director Zeba Hai Azhar intercepted a Land Cruiser V8 LEH/ 055 model 2013 and demanded clearance documents from the driver. However, the driver failed to produce any documents against the vehicle. The sources said that driver of the vehicle introduced himself as a son of a top police official.

The black V8 Land Cruiser was valued at Rs 16 million in the market and customs officials have registered a case against the accused party. The sources said that the vehicle was smuggled against the law and would be seized in the name of the state.

On the other hand, sources said that such smuggled luxury vehicles are being driven normally by the top officials of police and members of provincial and national assemblies.

The customs official sources said that such elements know the trick to pressurize the customs authorities, however, the authorities never gave in before any pressure in accordance with the instructions of the top customs officials.

They added that when it is established that any vehicle is illegally imported and being misused that must have to be seized by the customs authorities no matter who owns the vehicle.
