Customs I&I recovers huge quantity of non-duty paid cloth from July to October 2016

ISLAMABAD: Directorate General Customs Intelligence and Investigations (I&I) has recovered a huge quantity of non-duty paid cloth which was being brought into the country under the cover of Afghan Transit Trade (ATT).

Sources told Customs Today that Directorate General Customs Intelligence received information about the smuggling of the foreign origin cloth and its supply to various cities of the country.

Sources said that in the light of reports, the Customs Intelligence decided to take strict measures and constituted various teams to foil the smuggling attempts.

Sources said that Customs Intelligence teams recovered 15,315 yards of cloth during the month of July, while in August Customs Intelligence teams recovered 24,457 yards, in September 1,30,661 yards and in September and 4,395 yards of cloth were seized during the month of October.

Sources said that new Director General of Customs Intelligence and Investigations Shaukat Ali hailed the performance of customs teams to foil these attempts of smuggling. He also directed relevant authorities to enhance checking of vehicle which are running between Afghanistan and Pakistan.
