Customs I&I recovers smuggled goods worth Rs261m from a private school near Yousuf Goth

KARACHI: The Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation (I&I) has recovered huge quantity of smuggled worth Rs261 million from a private school near Yousuf Goth. The smuggled goods included food items, electronic items, and RFID tracking seals.

Addressing a a press conference Engineer Habib, Additional Directors Afzaal Wattoo, Nausheen Faisal Khan, Deputy Director Wasif Malik, Inamullah Wazir, Assistant Director Saud Hasan, Superintendent ASO Irshad Shah said that credible information was received that a huge quantity foreign-origin goods have been smuggled and the same have been dumped/stored in a godown at the premises of Al-Ahmed Public School, Yousaf Goth, Karachi.

A team of Customs staff along with the local police and Pakistan Rangers visited the school building. The search of the premises where miscellaneous foreign origin smuggled goods including food items, Black pepper, Almonds, Tea, Coconut, Peanuts, Poppy seeds, dry milk powder along with RFID Tracking seals, electronic and other miscellaneous items etc were found packed in the cartons, bags, rolls and jute bags.

The godown keeper Zain ul Abedeen was asked to produce lawful import documents in respect of the found goods but he failed to produce any lawful documents.

An FIR is registered and investigations are still underway.
