Customs I&I seizes 60,000 liters smuggled Iranian HSD & vehicle worth Rs22m

KARACHI: Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation (I&I) team foiled an attempt to smuggle 60,000 liters foreign origin (Iranian) diesel. The  I&I team also impounded Nissan cement bulker with trailer (22 wheeler) bearing registration no: TLG-396. while the value of seized goods is Rs22 million.

According to the details, Director Customs Intelligence and Investigation Irfan Javed received specific information that huge quantity of foreign origin (Iranian) diesel oil would be smuggled via Super Highway Karachi for sale in the city.

He constituted which intercepted a Nissan cement bulker and trailer (22 wheeler) bearing registration no: TLG-396 at Super Highway, near PS Gaddap, Karachi. Upon cursory checking on the spot, the vehicle was found to be loaded with diesel oil. The driver was asked to produce import/ purchase documents verifying its lawful possession and transportation, which he failed to provide. The vehicle was then escorted to the Directorate of Customs I&I for detailed examination against proper documentation, which resulted in recovery of 60,000 liters of smuggled/ non-duty paid Iran origin High Speed Diesel (HSD).

The I&I team seized the 60,000 liters of HSD oil alongwith Nissan cement bulker and trailer (22 wheeler). The market value of vehicle is Rs14.997 million have been seized in terms of Section 168 of the Customs Act, 1969, while further action is underway..
