Customs Intelligence seizes contraband items worth Rs 24m in first half of May

LAHORE: The Directorate of Customs Investigation and Intelligence Lahore seized contraband items worth Rs 24 million during the first half of May, 2015.

According to details, the directorate confiscated ball bearings auto parts, scrap, engines, tyres with tubes and chassis frames worth Rs 7.68 million involving duty and taxes evasion worth Rs 3.89 million.

In second case, I&I seized tyres and scrap worth Rs774,000 involving duty and taxes worth Rs272,852, while the directorate also seized iron and steel scrap and electric motors worth Rs3 million involving duty and taxes worth Rs1.31 million during third raid against alleged smugglers.

Similarly, Customs I&I also impounded used Mercedes Benz worth Rs2 million involving duty and taxes of Rs 3,414,900 in a different operation.

In the same way, the directorate in another case of smuggling seized film plain rolls valued at Rs 9.51 million which were recovered from a godown in Urdu Bazar, Lahore, while the directorate also confiscated huge quantity of illegal imported steel waste, auto scrap and other smuggled items worth Rs408,200 involving duty and taxes worth Rs234, 270. I&I also impounded a truck loaded with auto parts scrap worth Rs1.33 million.
