KARACHI: On the directions of Director Irfan Javed, Customs Intelligence and Investigation in coordination of Naval Intelligence Pakistan Navy seized 100 kilograms of crystal meth (ice) worth Rs1.6 billion in international market.
According to the details, Director Irfan Javed received credible information that ice was being smuggled from coast of Karachi, joint surveillance was mounted by Customs Intelligence & Investigation (I&I) along with Naval Intelligence at the coastline and dock yards.
In the morning of 31st March, it was informed that white narcotics (crystal meth/ ice) was dumped at a location along the coastline near Ibrahim Hyderi area, Karachi. Resultantly the surveillance teams of Customs Intelligence and Investigation along with Naval Intelligence initiated the operation and raided the dumping location.
Consequently 100 kilograms of crystal meth (ice) worth international market value of approximately Rs166 million was seized. The drug cache was planned to be smuggled via sea route. Subsequently, the seized narcotics have been taken over for initiating legal and criminal proceedings.
The extraordinary efforts of Director Irfan Javed in detection of evasion in the instant case as well as his indefatigable efforts in other cases have dully been appreciated. He has added considerable value to the performance of the Directorate-General of Customs Intelligence and Investigations Karachi. Under the supervision of Director Irfan Javed Directorate-General of Customs Intelligence & Investigation (I&I) recovered Rs221,715,659/- (Rs221.7 million) on evaded by M/s Oil & Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) on import of seamless pipes imported vide GD No. KEWB-HC-2414. In another case, Directorate-General Customs Intelligence and Investigation (I&I) detected misuse of SR 655(I)/2006 dated 27.6.2006 and tax evasion of Rs374.2 million by M/s Islam Engineering (Private) Limited.
Similarly Director Irfan Javed detected evasion of duty and taxes worth Rs1,83,83,539/-(Rs18.38 million) by M/s Spark World Private Limited East Wharf, Karachi. Earlier, Director I&I Irfan Javed, on credible information, blocked a number of consignments of different embassies including Indonesia, Syria, Algeria and Lebanon after their clearance by relevant customs collectorates at Karachi ports.
