Customs I&I seizes smuggled goods worth Rs54m

KARACHI: Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation (I&I) has expedited efforts against smuggling, and seized huge quantity of smuggled goods worth Rs54 million in differents operations.

Sources said that information was passed through Director Saqif Saeed to Additional Director Rana Tasleem regarding presence of smuggled goods at a warehouse in Korangi, Karachi.

Customs Intelligence and Investigation team led by Deputy Director Amjad Rajpar searched the subject warehouse in Korangi  godwon and recovered huge quantity of smuggled foreign origin assorted fabric weighing 27.15 tons worth Rs54 million.

Moreover, large quantity of smuggled Irani plastic shopping bags, Irani juices and confectionary worth Rs7 million dumped at the new Shadab Transport Goods Karachi were also recovered. Intelligence Officers Irshad Ali and Suhail Siddiqui took part in this operation.

An official said these goods are transported from Quetta to Karachi via passenger buses. These goods are dumped in Yusuf Goth for their onward distribution.

Further investigations in this regard are still underway till the filing of this report.
