Customs I&I seizes smuggled items worth Rs1.43 billion in 10 months

KARACHI: Directorate of Customs Intelligence & Investigation Karachi region Director Asif Marghoob Siddiqui said that department made numbers of seizure cases during first ten months of current fiscal year 2014-15 and one of its major seizure was confiscation of almost 10 tonnes charas worth Rs850 million in Sukkur.

Further elaborating the performance of Customs I&I, Asif said that about 440,798 liters of diesel worth of Rs39.03 million was seized involving duty/taxes amounting to Rs14.45.

He said that about 53,893kilograms of cloth worth Rs37.56 million was also seized and the duty and taxes involved in this seizure was Rs16.99 million.

I&I impounded 36 smuggled/non-duty paid vehicles including 28 concrete mixtures worth Rs44.2 million involving duty/taxes worth Rs37.12 million

Grease weighing 150 kg was also seized worth Rs39.03 million and the duty and taxes involved in this seizure was Rs23,556.

About 1,920kg of Black Tea was confiscated amounting to Rs0.56 million and the duty and taxes involved in this seizure was Rs299,521.

As many as 928 tyres and tubes worth Rs9.56 million were seized involving duty/taxes worth Rs5.7 million.

As many as 50,624 cartons of cigarettes were also seized with a value of Rs44.14 million and the duty and taxes involved in this seizure was Rs79.06 million.

Besides, 3,470,190 pouches of gutka worth Rs31.9 million and 158 carpets worth Rs0.54 million were also confiscated.

As many as 10,423 bottles of liquor and 13,402 cans of beers were also confiscated with a value of Rs73.9 million.

Almost 39 vehicles were impounded under Section 157 with a value of Rs74,100, 9900 kgs of charas worth Rs0.85 million and 28825 kg poppy seed amounting to Rs8.64 million were also confiscated.

Other goods including CNG cylinders, auto parts, electronic goods, refrigerant gas, compressor scrap, ceramic tiles, computer parts, mobile chargers, pad locks, toys, rubber processing oil, LED TVs, container, wooden logs, launches, fire crackers, laptops, tablets, mobile phones, plastic granules, refrigeration copper tube, dry iron, petroleum liquid, generators, photocopier machines, weight gain supplement, chocolates, motor oil, base oil, plastic rolls, detergent powder, body wash, Lux soap, BOPP Film rolls, plastic moulding compound, hair oil, shampoo, face wash, cable wire, electronic goods, split AC, video camera, camera lenses, whey powder, black seed, nuqra, etc. worth Rs224.6 million were also seized involving duty/tax amounting to Rs87.31million.

Overall goods amounting to the tune of Rs1.439 billion were seized and the duty and taxes involved overall seizures stood to Rs240.6 million.
