Customs impounds 12 vehicles worth Rs 7.6m in 7 days

ISLAMABAD: The Model Customs Collectorate impounded 12 vehicles, including non-duty paid vehicles and others which were being used for smuggling worth Rs 7.665 million during first week of November 2016.

According to details, the customs impounded eight non-duty paid vehicles as three Toyota Vitz cars in dismantle condition and 5 Suzuki pickups. The smugglers tried to show the said vehicles as spare parts, but chassis numbers were not scratched on the parts; therefore the customs confiscated the said cars under customs laws.

It also seized four vehicles, including Hino Truck bearing Registration TKN-844, Hino Truck 2260-Dir, Nissan Truck C-1811 and Suzuki TT-701, which were being used for smuggling foreign origin goods.

It may mentioned here that the department impounded 44 non-duty paid vehicles worth Rs 66.761 million during first four months (July-October) of current fiscal year 2016-17. It also impounded 42 vehicles being used for smuggling worth Rs 47.95 million during the said period.

Officials said that the Islamabad Customs following the special instruction of Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has launched a campaign against smuggled vehicles and goods in order to save national economy.

They added that the department collected handsome revenue through the auction of non-duty paid vehicles, besides limiting the risks of their usage in anti-state activities.
