Customs impounds 5 non-duty paid, one offending vehicle worth Rs 5 million

ISLAMABAD: Customs Collectorate has impounded five non-duty paid Suzuki Jiminy Jeeps and one offending vehicle worth Rs 5 million.

Collector Arslan Subugteen told Customs Today that the car cell led by Inspector Khalid Samad got information that a 10 wheeler truck registration No C-1034 is coming from Lahore GT Road loaded with non-duty paid articles.

During the checking of the vehicles, the car cell intercepted the suspicious truck and asked the driver to provide the relevant documents of the loaded vehicles, the driver provide the document but that document were not according to the loaded vehicles.

He said that provided document were comprises with details that loaded vehicles are scrape but the custom officers were not satisfied with the details. They noted that the loaded goods were not scrape but were Suzuki Jiminy Jeeps.

He further said that the chases numbers of the vehicles are not grind because of that they cannot consider as scrape, after this the car cell staff impounded the offending vehicle along other 5 NDP Suzuki Jiminy Jeeps and registered FIR against offender under section 157 and 16 Article of Custom law and further investigation is under way.

Collector said that in August the Car cell impounded 16 non-0duty paid vehicles under value of Rs29.3 million.

He said that Customs Collectorate got special instructions from Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to make a crackdown against tax evaders (holders of NDP), and the department also using latest technology as lap-tops, connectivity with excise and taxation department, and strict vigilance by preventive division and car cell to discourage the trends of smuggling.
