Superintendent Safdar told Customs Today that the Anti-Smuggling Squad conducted a raid under the supervision of Deputy Collector Car Cell (Preventive) Ansar Anies and impounded the vehicle.

He said the squad reached the place in morning and started waiting for the owner of the car. The squad had to wait from morning to evening but owner did not appear. After a long wait, the squad got permission from the headquarters to take it to the state ware house. The owner is reported to have escaped.

The customs authorities said the car was not registered at the Excise and Taxation Department. The MCC Islamabad Car Cell is making significant progress against NDP vehicles which has reduced the trend of smuggling to a great extent, superintendent said. He said the vehicle was carrying a fake registration No: LZN-508. Model of seized Mitsubishi was 1993. An FIR has been registered for further investigation.
