ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad Customs has impounded a non-duty paid Mercedes car worth Rs 8 million.
Deputy Collector Shahid Jan told Customs Today that the anti-smuggling car cell received information through the deputy collector’s office that a non-duty paid vehicle is coming from Peshawar and will enter the jurisdiction of customs around evening, when shifts of check posts will change.
The squad was fully alert at the entry point of the Islamabad Motorway where the customs team intercepted a Mercedes model 2004 with registration number KK-029. The squad asked the driver to produce legal documents regarding possession of the vehicle but the driver failed on which the duty officer impounded the vehicle under Customs Act 1969 and arrested the driver. Deputy Collector Shahid Jan said that the documents of vehicle have been sent for examination.
The deputy collector said that the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has issued special instructions to all Customs Departments to curb smuggling.
He said that Collector Dr Arslan has given special order to the car cell of the Anti-Smuggling Organisation to launch a crackdown against people involved in the business of non-duty paid vehicles.
The ASO staff who took part in this operation includeed Superintendent Zargham Dil, Superintendent Nasir Barlas, Deputy Superintendent Rana Shakeel and others. An FIR has been registered case against the suspects and further investigations are underway.
