Customs impounds non-duty paid tiles, autoparts, cloth worth Rs 2.33m in Lahore

LAHORE: Directorate of Customs Investigation and Intelligence seized illegally imported goods and articles, including Iranian tiles, auto-parts, curtain cloth and other contraband items worth Rs 2.33 million involving duty and tax evasion of Rs 1.60 million.

According to details, on information, Director Imtiaz Ahmad Khan of anti-smuggling wing of the directorate  seized 1,540 cartons of illegal Iranian tiles worth Rs 1.7 million involving duty and taxes Rs 1.2 million.

The anti-smuggling wing on the directives of Additional Director Mohsin Rafique raided a truck bearing registration number TUK-605 and successfully seized the illegally belongings of Tatyzai of Quetta.

In another raid the collectorate’s anti-smuggling unit seized contraband goods worth Rs 633,300 involving duty and taxes of Rs 348,184.

The anti-smuggling wing of the directorate on the instructions of Additional Director Mohsin Rafique impounded 15 non customs paid rolls of curtain cloth, 12 tyres, ball bearings, body sprays, perfumes, 72 irons, hair oil and central door of Hiace from a van No LWN-4980.

The Bus was being driven by Amjad Khan who was carrying the smuggled goods from Peshawar to Lahore when he was intercepted at Shera Kott.

The successful raids were conducted by the anti-smuggling team consisting of deputy superintendents and inspectors including Asad Farooq, Arif Naveed, Maqsood Butt, Zulfiqar, Nadeenm Ahsan, Hamad Babar, Abid Javaid, Khwaja Zia, Muhammad Hussain, Asad Atta Rabani, at various roads including Multan Road, Motorways, Ravi Road, Shera Kott, Faizpur interchange and others under the supervision of superintendents including Nasir Minhas, Chudhary Fiaz and Munawar Khan.

The Customs I&I has accelerated actions against the illegal activities of smuggling following the recent Lahore visit of DG I&I Lutfullah Virk. The DG met Director Imtiaz and urged the Lahore directorate not to spare the smugglers in any way.
