Customs impounds non-duty paid truck, goods worth Rs 1.4m during operation

ISLAMABAD: The anti-smuggling squad of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has impounded a non-duty paid Mazda truck and blankets worth Rs 1.4 million.

Deputy Director Preventive Shahid Jan told Customs Today that the customs staff is using all available resources to curb smuggling in the region. He said that the FBR has also instructed the officials to start a campaign against non-duty paid vehicles.

He said that on information ASO intercepted a Mazda truck on GT road, the truck was coming from Peshawar, the squad ask the driver of the truck to provide relevant document regarding loaded goods but he failed to satisfy the squad.

After that the squad seized the offending vehicle under article 157 of Customs Act 1969, the value of offending vehicle is Rs8,000,00 and the value of goods (blankets) is Rs6,00000.  He said that Collector Arslan hailed the performance of ASO squad for showing excellent performance to curb smuggling.

Deputy Collector Shahid Jan said that Afghan Transit Trade goods came to Pakistan from Torkham border and supplied to different cities on low price in the market.  He said that custom department using all available resource to curb smuggling through Afghan Transit Trade.

He said that during last financial year the performance of anti smuggling squad was very good and they collected very handsome amount to meet the set target of FY 2015-16.

The squad who conducted the operation includes Superintendent Nasir Barlas, Deputy Superintendent Rana Shakeel and others.
