Customs installs new auto code reader machine at AFU

LAHORE: Collectorate of Customs Preventive installed a new code reader machine at Air Freight Unit to overcome the smuggling attempts of different gadgets especially mobile phones.

According to details, Customs Preventive installed a scanner which is capable to read codes of all kinds of electric gadgets and IME codes of mobile phones as well.

The AFU has taken this action after an increase in smuggling attempts and theft of mobile phones and computer tablets from the warehouse of customs preventive Allama Iqbal International Airport.

Earlier, a large number of mobile phones were missing from warehouse and thieves left dummies of mobile phones in the warehouse to match the record.

Now Additional Collector Farrukh Sharif has said that the installation of a new scanner will maintain the record and stop the smuggling of illegal mobile phones.

It is necessary to mention here that Customs Preventive team has recovered thousands of mobile phones during previous week at Allama Iqbal International Airport.
