Customs Intelligence bids farewell to outgoing DG Lutfullah Virk

Extra measures are required to arrest menace of smuggling, says DG Intelligence Lutfullah Virk

ISLAMABAD: Customs Intelligence & Investigation (I&I) officers arranged a farewell ceremony in honor of DG I&I Lutfullah Virk who retired on October 31, 2015 after serving the department for 34 years.

Customs Intelligence Director Headquarters Muhammad Saleem, Additional Director Afzal Cheema, Additional Director Rawalpindi Muhammad Saleem, Deputy Director Engineer Shahid Jan, Deputy Director Khaldoon ul Haq, Superintendent Muhammad Nawaz, Intelligence Officer Tariq Jehangir, Shahid Majeed and other officials also attended the ceremony.

DG Lutfullah Virk also expressed his feelings while recalling his 34-year long service.

“I tried my level best to curb smuggling, which is spoiling our national economy but more measures are required to arrest the menace,” he said.

He said all officers and officials should adopt high standards of professionalism, honesty, hardworking and responsibility to strengthen public institutions against mafias.

He said, during his tenure, Customs Intelligence remained successful to diminish smuggling in Pakistan, adding that it was possible with coordination of every employee of the department. He emphasised upon continuous efforts to tackle anti-economy elements.

Speaking on the occasion, Director Headquarters, Muhammad Saleem highlighted the achievements of Lutfullah Virk during his tenure. He also said that strategies introduced by Virk will definitely pave the way for his successors to combat smuggling.

He also appraised the performance of the officials and officers, besides warned them that corruption, incompetency and misuse of powers were the elements, which were enough to destroy the department.
