Customs Intelligence confiscates coconut worth Rs 1.7m

FAISALABAD: The Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation has confiscated 200 bags of foreign origin coconut worth Rs 1.7 million involving duty/taxes amounting to Rs 946,084.

Following the instructions of Additional Director Azmat Tahira, the intelligence team raided Haji Sadar Goods on Jhang Road Faisalabad and recovered a huge quantity of coconut. The team asked the owner named Waqas Munir to show documents regarding the legal import of the items. But, he failed to show the documents on which the smuggled items were seized under Section 168 of the Customs Act, 1969 punishable under Section 156 (1) 90. Tt was clear that the goods were brought into Pakistan illegally by evading duty and taxes.

The Customs Intelligence team comprising Senior Intelligence Officer Zahid Saleem Mirza, Intelligence Officer Mian Muhammad Yousaf, Sepoy Zulafqar Ali Awan, Shoukat Hayat and Allah Bakhsh participated in the raids.

The seizure report along with other relevant documents has been submitted to Customs Adjudication.
