ISLAMABAD: The Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation confiscated smuggled items, including vehicles worth Rs 5.682 billion during 11 months (July-May) of the current fiscal year.
The Customs Intelligence impounded 490 non-duty paid vehicles, cloth, petrol, diesel, cigarettes, fertilizers, motor oil, auto parts, liquor, cooking oil, wood, medicines, electronics, blankets and other miscellaneous items.
Besides, it foiled various drugs smuggling bids and confiscated 4,871 kilogram of charas, 35kg opium and 12.5kg heroin worth billions of rupees in international market. The Customs Intelligence registered 1290 cases and registered 72 culprits during the said period.
Under the supervision of Director General Imtiaz Ahmad Khan, the Customs Intelligence staff made historic seizures due to which a decline has been observed in smuggling activities. FBR Chairman Nisar Muhammad Khan also lauded the performance of the directorate.
As per details, it impounded 439 vehicles under section 157 worth Rs 718.2 million, non-duty paid vehicles worth Rs 750.9 million, cloth worth Rs 267.5, electronics worth Rs 924.8 million, cigarettes worth Rs 132.6 million, Iranian diesel worth Rs 126.8 million and miscellaneous items worth Rs 1.745 billion during different raids.
