LAHORE: A team of Customs Intelligence and Investigation on Tuesday detained a non customs paid Mark-X from Bahria Town, sources told Customs Today.
It was said that the Customs team raided Bahria Town and detained the luxury vehicle. Sources said that the car had fake registration number LEH/2668 while its model was established as 2012.
The customs authorities said that the car has not been registered with any government department, including excise and taxation when it was searched. The sources said that the car was detained following the permission of Bahria Town administration while the owner of the car was not available because he was said to be out the city. It was also said that the value of the car was estimated at around Rs 6 million.
The raid was conducted on the directions of Lahore Directorate Intelligence and Investigation Additional Director of Customs Usman Bajwa under the supervision of Superintendent Malik Yasin operation led by Car Cell Incharge Muratab Mushataq along with his team of IOs and sepoys including Agha Sultan Haider, Kamran Mirza, Hawaldar Sharafat, Saif Gujjar and Arshad Bhatti and others.
The sources said that the customs authorities has given the owner of the vehicle legal time to produce legal clearance documents against the car and if the owner failed to produce the documents the car would be seized. The custom authorities have registered a case and started further investigations.
The Customs I&I Car Cell on the instructions of Director Saud Imran has stepped up crackdowns against the non-customs paid and cut and veld vehicles in and around the limits of the directorate.
The directorate has seized and detained over 70 luxary non customs paid vehicles worth millions of rupees during the current financial year which were 25 when compared with the same period last financial year.
