Customs Intelligence detects tax evasion of Rs 191m by M/s Diamond Company

KARACHI: The Customs Intelligence and Investigation has detected a case of mis-declaration by M/s Diamond and Company on consignments of bed sheets and curtains .

According to sources, on the directions of Director General Samina Taslim Zehra, a customs team examined some consignments and found that the importer had tried to evade taxes by showing less cost of its imports. The team found Diamond Company was involved in mis-declaration.

The company showed the consignment as complete polyester while the examination report resulted in cotton and blended fabrics. The customs authorities saved the national exchequer by taking timely action. 845,013 kilogram shipment was showed Rs86 million while the actual worth of the shipment was Rs191 million so the team sealed the consignment and launched a First Information Report (FIR) against the company.
