Customs Intelligence directed to submit challan in Iranian plastic material smuggling case

LAHORE: The Special Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling has directed the Customs Intelligence team to submit interim-challan by March 1 against Shaukat Ali in a case pertaining to the smuggling of Iranian plastic raw material.

Earlier, Special Judge Chauhdary Ameer Muhammad Khan has granted bail to Shaukat Ali against surety bonds. Shaukat Ali was arrested when the Customs Intelligence raided a warehouse in Shahdara.

During the raid, the Customs team found a huge quantity of polyethylene material, which was smuggled from Iran. The Customs team seized and 10,950 kilograms of smuggled material and arrested the owner of the material Shaukat Ali son of Miraj Din, as he failed to produce the documents showing legal import of the item.

Total worth of the smuggled items was estimated at Rs 1.9 million. A case was registered against Shaukat Ali under Section 2(s), 16, 156, (1) and 178 of Pakistan Customs Act, 1969.
