Hyderabad Customs Intelligence seizes foreign origin cigarettes, Gutka, juice powder worth Rs 23m

HYDERABAD: The Customs Intelligence and Investigation Hyderabad Region raided a godown and seized 403 cartons of foreign origin cigarettes, 120 sacks of Indian Gutka and 2,481 cartons of foreign origin Al Tunsa Juice powder worth Rs 23 million including duties and taxes.

Sources told Customs Today that Director Customs I&I Hyderabad Region Tahir Qureshi received a tip-off about the non-duty-paid goods. He immediately constituted a team under the supervision of a superintendent and instructed him to foil the smuggling attempt.

The ASO team raided the godown near Hirabad Hyderabad and recovered smuggled non-duty-paid contraband items including cigarettes, Gutka and Juice powder. The market value of the goods is Rs 23 million.

The ASO team, after registering a case of smuggling, confiscated the goods and forwarded the case to the customs adjudication for further proceeding.

The confiscated items have been deposited into the customs state warehouse Hyderabad.
