Customs Intelligence impounds 132 vehicles worth Rs 307m in Q1

ISLAMABAD: The Directorate General of Customs Intelligence and Investigation taking stern action against non-duty paid vehicles impounded 132 vehicles worth Rs 307.897 million during July to September of running fiscal year 2016-17.

During the action, some accused persons were also arrested, while numbers of drivers and owners of impounded vehicles fled from the scene by leaving the vehicles.

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has hailed the performance of the directorate and also directed to speed up the operation in order to save the national kitty.

As per details, the intelligence officials impounded 56 vehicles during July 2016 and 49 vehicles during August. They also impounded 27 vehicles worth Rs 112.6 million during September

The department has decided to increase cooperation with law enforcement agencies in order to expedite the operation against smuggled vehicles in the region. A system will also be developed to conduct operations with the help of police, FC and other agencies on a daily basis.

The law enforcement agencies will also be asked to contact nearby office of Customs Intelligence for verification of vehicles if they found documents of vehicles dubious.
