DHAKA: Audi A5, Mercedes E240, Mercedes ML350 and BMW X5 were seized at Baridhara’s Block-J on Sunday afternoon, the director general of Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) told.

Moinul Khan said the owners of the vehicles abandoned them as they have been conducting raids to seize illegally imported luxury cars. CIID Assistant Director Imam Gazzali said three of them had no number plates while the Mercedes ML350 had a fake one.

He added that the estimated market value of the cars including import duty would be around Tk 100 million. Gazzali said the vehicles were under the supervision of Swadesh Motors, a workshop.

“We have found out that these cars were being kept there for repairs. But no-one came to take them back.”He said they would look for the owners by getting the information from the workshop. “After determining their identities, we’ll take action.”

The CIID have seized several luxury cars, imported without paying customs duties, during raids in different parts of the country in recent times.
