Customs Intelligence impounds non-duty paid ladies hand bags worth Rs 4m

LAHORE: Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation on Friday seized 78 cartons of foreign origin smuggled lady hand bags of assorted types from outskirts of Lahore.

Sources told Customs Today that on secret information of Additional Director Mona Aslam, the Customs I&I team led by Superintendent Malik Yasin raided  an Goods Transport Ada near Shera Kot Band Road where a container stuffed with ladies hand bags was being unloaded.

The Customs authorities, being fully satisfied that legal import documents were not available with the consignment, impounded the container.

The Customs officials said the drivers fled away and the customs authorities after detaining the container of the ladies hand bags brought to Customs I&I Office in Allama Iqbal Town.

It was added that the C&F value of the ladies hand bags was estimated at Rs 4 million while its market value may be Rs8 million in the open market.

Superintendent Malik Yasin told Customs Today that the ladies hand bags were seized as the container drivers showed no legal import documents instead they fled away from the spot.

He said that the bags have been impounded in the name of the state while no one has approached to show the documents for the container’s release. Inspector Rao Mansoor Elahi and others were also part of the raiding team.

It was informed that the Customs authorities after registering a case have started investigations to reach the elements involved in the illegal business at the cost of legal trade.
