Customs Intelligence recovers non-duty paid red chillis, auto parts

FAISALABAD: The Customs Intelligence and Investigation has recovered 1,000 kilograms of foreign origin red-chilli seeds and auto parts worth Rs 500,000, involving customs duty and taxes to the tune of Rs 317,500 during a crackdown.

Sources told Customs Today that Additional Director Azmat Tahira received information about some smuggling attempts. She formed a raiding team comprising Asghar Mehdi Naqvi (IO ), Zulfiqar Ali Awan and Shoukat Hayat.

The Customs team intercepted a Mazda truck bearing registration No FSD- 1189 loaded with smuggled goods near New Truck Stand Jhang Road and recovered smuggled red-chilli seeds (1000-kg), and foreign origin auto parts without accessories, and head cylinder. The customs team asked the accused person who was identified as Muhammad Bilal (driver) to produce legal documents regarding possession of the loaded goods, but he failed to provide any relevant documents in this regard.

The customs team seized the goods under Customs Act 1969 and forwarded the case to customs adjudication for further proceedings.
