ISLAMABAD: The Customs Intelligence and Investigation, Rawalpindi seized 7725 kilogram of Indian cumin seeds packed in 235 bags worth Rs 655,080 involving duty/taxes amounting to Rs 294,656, besides impounding the carrier vehicle worth Rs 700,000.
Following credible information received through Customs Intelligence Additional Director Muhammad Saleem that a huge cache of Indian cumin seeds will be brought into Islamabad via Kashmir through a truck bearing Registration No RIM-7863, a team established check post on road to seize the smuggled items.
The Customs Intelligence team intercepted the same truck for checking that led to the recovery of huge quantity of Indian origin cumin seeds, which were brought to Kashmir from Gujarat.
The officials arrested the driver of the truck and impounded the vehicle along with recovered items under the customs laws.
During investigations, the officials learnt that another six persons are involving in the smuggling. After issuing show cause notices, the customs has forwarded the case to the Customs Adjudication.
