Customs Intelligence seizes contraband items worth Rs 3.73b in May, 2015

ISLAMABAD: The Directorate General of Customs Intelligence and Investigation, Islamabad has seized smuggled goods worth over Rs 3.73 billion and arrested 5 persons during May, 2015.

According to the details, in its ongoing anti-smuggling drive customs Intelligence and Investigation failed various smuggling attempts in the region and lodged almost 145 cases against the alleged smugglers during said period.

Officials informed Customs Today that the cases of arrested persons have also been sent to the special court of customs.

Customs intelligence seized smuggled goods including 277 kilogram of charas; 20 kg opium, 62 kg heroin, 543,350 litres of diesel; large quantity of foreign origin cigarettes of various brands; injurious gutka; tyres; tiles; and electronic items in May, 2015.

Besides, 91 non-duty paid vehicles worth Rs 1.11 billion approximately were also impounded in action against smuggled vehicles in the region.

Customs Intelligence seized 55,972 yards of foreign origin cloth worth Rs 214 million, 8,385 kg of black tea worth Rs 43 million during May of running fiscal year 2014-15.
