Customs Intelligence seizes contraband items worth Rs 88m in 7 days

ISLAMABAD: Following the directions of Director General Imtiaz Ahmad Khan, the Customs Intelligence and Investigation confiscated smuggled items and non-duty paid vehicles worth Rs 88.1 million during first seven days of running month, May, 2016.

The Customs Intelligence has expedited the anti-smuggling drive all over the country. The director general has directed all officials not to be negligent against the smuggling. He added that well performers will be given rewards while poor performers will not be offered good postings and rewards.

During the seven days, the Customs Intelligence seized diesel, grease, cigarettes, electronics, non-duty paid vehicles, tres and tubes, etc and made 41 cases, besides arresting one accused person.

The directorate also busted various drugs smuggling bids and seized 6.5 kilogram of heroin, 9kg charas, and 16kg opium worth millions of rupees in international market.

The directorate under the supervision of DG Imtiaz Khan made historical seizures, as anti-smuggling operations at this level were not launched in the past.

The Customs Intelligence from July, 2015 to May 7, 2016 confiscated smuggled items worth Rs 4.65 billion and registered 1190 cases, besides nabbing 72 accused persons.
