Customs Intelligence seizes non-duty paid cigarettes worth Rs 4.78m from July to October 2016

ISLAMABAD: Directorate General Customs Intelligence and Investigation, during the on going campaign against smuggling, seized 52,698 packets of non-duty paid cigarettes amounting to Rs 4.78 million from July to October 2016.

According to a report issued by Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigations, in August 206, FBR Chairman Nisar Mohammad Khan directed the Customs Intelligence to take strict measures against smuggling of foreign origin cigarettes. He also directed the customs authorities to take stern action against those companies which are involved in manufacturing of fake cigarettes.

Customs Intelligence authorities seized 5,064 dandas of non-duty paid cigarettes amounting to Rs1.51 million during the same period of previous Fiscal Year 2014-15.

Now according to latest statistics Customs Intelligence teams recovered 3,190 dandas of fake and non-duty paid cigarettes worth Rs9,40,000 during the month of October 2016, while customs authorities seized smuggled cigarettes amounting to Rs9.85,100 in September. Customs teams also seized 3190 dandas of non duty paid cigarettes in August.

It is necessary to mention here that chairman FBR Nisar Mohammad Khan and Member Customs Nasir Masoor Ahmad hailed the performance of Customs Intelligence and Investigation to curb smuggling of non-duty paid cigarettes in the country.
