Customs Intelligence seizes non-duty paid generators worth Rs 100m in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: The Directorate General of Intelligence and Investigation, Customs has seized seven generators worth Rs 100 million approximately in Islamabad.

Following the directions of DG Intelligence and Investigation, Lutfullah Virk, a team of intelligence raided a godown near Tarnol in Islamabad on tip-off and detect mega tax evasion case by recovering heavy generators.

Talking to Customs Today Deputy Director of Customs Intelligence and Investigation Rawalpindi told that our intelligence received information that non-duty paid heavy generators for industrial use had been concealed in a godown of Afridi United Goods.

After receiving information, Director Muhammad Saleem assigned task to Deputy Director Shahid Jan to conduct raid, while the support of Islamabad police and rangers was also taken in this operation to counter the resistance if any.

Shahid informed that Rs 225 million approximately has been evaded on the confiscated generators of 1200 kva as $75 per KVA duty tax was charged according to the customs law at the time of import.

He said that generators’ seizure case was bigger than the Smart Zone and TCS cases as in this case customs confiscates items worth Rs 100 million.

The Customs Intelligence has been directed by DG Lutfullah to curb smuggling in the Pakistan, he said adding that measures have been taken to make the Afghan Transit Trade route smuggling free.
