Customs Intelligence seizes smuggled goods, articles worth Rs 824m from July 2015 to May 2016

LAHORE: Customs Directorate of Intelligence and Investigations has seized goods and article and non-duty paid vehicles worth Rs 824 million involving duty and taxes of Rs 614 million from July 2015 to May 2016.

As per details, Intelligence Officer Car Cell Maratab Mushataq impounded vehicles worth Rs 78 million involving duty and taxes worth Rs 122,654,128.  The directorate seized non-customs paid tempered cars and vehicles, including BMWs, Mercedes, Mark-Xs, Honda Citi, Toyota Corolla and other cars of assorted brands.

The cars were seized from various localities of Lahore, including Defence, Model Town, Iqbal Town, Muslim Town, Ravi Road, Lyton Road, Gulberg and Anarkali. Official sources said that these vehicles were plying on fake number plates and documents.

Besides cars, the directorate anti-smuggling team under the supervision of Superintendents Malik Yasin and Amjad Malik seized million of rupees contraband goods and articles.

The non-customs paid items included 242109 yards of foregin made cloth worth Rs 10,884,446 involving duty and taxes of Rs5,749,031 while 490 cartons of tea worth Rs241,000 involving duty and taxes worth Rs 143,321.

On the other hand the team seized non customs paid 3226 tyres and tubes worth Rs16,469,500 involving duty and taxes worth Rs9,827,218 while the directorate seized autoparts/ autospare parts worth Rs 19,496 involving duty and taxes worth Rs13731,708.

Similarly the collctorate collected mobil oil 120 litres worth Rs 43,200 involving duty and taxes worth Rs 25,066 while the collectorate seized 125 drums of grease worth Rs5000,000 involving duty and taxes worth Rs3,158,125.

Same way the collectorate confiscated 3512 dandas of cigarettes worth Rs 56,326,500 involving duty and taxes 310, 953,964 while electric goods worth Rs 6,495,000 involving duty and taxes worth Rs 3,783,259 were impounded.

The collectorate confiscated 17 blankets worth Rs 34,000 involving duty and taxes worth Rs 17,037 while miscellaneous goods and articles worth Rs631,165,097 were seized.

The non-customs paid items and vehicles were seized on the directions of Director Saud Imran Ahmad while Additional Director Usman Bajwa led the operations against smugglers.
