Customs Intelligence seizes smuggled goods, vehicles worth Rs 75.7m till November 27th

ISLAMABAD: The Directorate General of Customs Intelligence and Investigation has seized the miscellaneous smuggled goods including  non duty paid cars and offending vehicles, diesel, cigarettes, gutka, foreign origin cloth, electronics goods and tea,  amounting to more than Rs.75.7million and registered 38 cases till 27th November 2016, in country wide operation against smuggling.

Talking to Customs Today, Additional Director (HQ) Customs I&I Abdul Waheed Marwat has said that we are trying hard to curb the menace of smuggling, during the first three and half weeks November 2016 Customs I&I seized 17 offending vehicles under section 157 of Customs Act 1969, worth Rs. 25.8 million and 10 non duty paid smuggled vehicles worth Rs.13.1 million.

Customs I&I also seized miscellaneous smuggled goods worth Rs.9.58 million, smuggled non duty paid 2,720 yard foreign origin cloth worth Rs.2.055 million, black tea 206 kilograms worth Rs.43,000.

Additional director said that in a two special operation against smuggling of Iranian diesel and cigarettes, we have also seized 2,48,020 liters diesel worth Rs.12.9 million and 500 dandas of cigarettes worth Rs.1.9 million. Customs I&I recovered the electronic goods worth Rs.9.77 million, Indian gutka worth Rs0.448  million. The Directorate general registered 38 cases. He said there is no room for corruption in Customs Intelligence and Investigations, if any employee or officer involved we will take strict action. He said that there are different proposal and suggestions are under consideration regarding new initiatives to control on smuggling and these will be finalized soon.
