KARACHI: The Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) of Customs Intelligence and Investigation-FBR Karachi, with its effective operations against smugglers along with the other security agencies, has seized smuggled goods worth Rs 20 million approximately during four raids in last two days.
A team of anti-smuggling organization of Customs Intelligence has seized a 22-wheeler trailer bearing registration number: TLV-918, loaded with around 5290 cartons of Irani tiles. During the raid, the anti-smuggling organisation has confiscated three containers of 20feet containing Irani tiles. The market value of confiscated goods was worth Rs31,74,000 while the value of trailer was Rs7,500,000. The ASO team was also arrested a driver from the spot and started further investigation.
In a joint operation with Maritime Security Agency (MSA) in international water limits, the Customs Intelligence and Investigation-FBR Karachi has confiscated a launch namely “Al-Rahyan” containing 39100liters Irani diesel worth Rs8million. During the operation, the security agencies have also arrested seven crew members of the launch and also confiscated the launch.
In another joint operation with Crime Branch-Karachi near Lea market area, the Customs Intelligence and Investigation-FBR Karachi intercepted a tanker bearing registration number: TTA-120 containing 1000liters HSD oil valuing Rs 2,400,000. The security agencies have also arrested two persons during the operation and shifted them on undisclosed destination.
In yet another raid, ASO of Customs Intelligence and Investigationhas seized a consignment containing 39 generators of foreign origin worth Rs1,352,810 and a consignment of art silk cloth of foreign origin and ladies and gents suits of made in England having total 4174kilogram. The market value of confiscated consignment was Rs2,778,785.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Directorate General of Customs Intelligence and Investigation-FBR recently foiled an attempt of smuggling and seized 15000liters smuggled Irani diesel worth millions of rupees from National Highway in the start of this month i.e. January.
According to details, an anti-smuggling team of Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation-FBR was signaled to stop a trawler bearing registration number QAG-1567 at National Highway and during checking it was found that the smugglers were tried to smuggle 15000liters of Irani diesel worth millions of rupees. According to the Intelligence officer, the trawler was on its way to Khairpur and the ASO staffers intercepted it at National Highway.
The Directorate General of Customs Intelligence and Investigation-FBR also seized a consignment containing 980bags of “Borouge Polyethylene” (plastic dana) consists of 24000kilograms on 4 January-2014. The consignment was transported from Peshawar to Karachi in a trawler bearing registration number TLU-083.
The Directorate General (DG) of Customs Intelligence and Investigation-FBR Luftullah Khan Virk and Director Customs Intelligence and Investigation-FBR Sindh Asif Marghoob Siddiqui have lauded the efforts of the officials and officers of entire anti-smuggling organization and asked them to continue their efforts in order to bust the smugglers’ network.
