ISLAMABAD: The Customs authorities have seized smuggled Indian clothes worth Rs80 million from three trucks at Sial Mor on Lahore-Islamabad Motorway.
Customs Intelligence and Investigation Director General Shaukat Ali, on a tipoff, constituted a special team to foil the smuggling bid and deployed it on the motorway. The team, on suspicion, stopped three trucks and recovered huge quantity of smuggled Indian clothes, including saris, lehengas, ghararays, blouses, petty coats, undergarments, uppers and tights.
Sources said that the smuggled clothes were being transported from Rawalpindi to Lahore through motorway. The Customs authorities have shifted confiscated items to warehouse and started raids on different localities after registering a case.
The Indian smugglers are transporting their goods to Pakistan via Afghanistan, sources said. The Customs Intelligence is also investigating the local traders involved in this illegal business.
