Customs Intelligence to be part of mobile check posts in Layyah: Additional Director Nisar

MULTAN: Customs Intelligence and Investigation has established new check post in Layyah with the cooperation of security agencies.

Additional Director Customs Intelligence and Investigation Nisar Ahmad visited the newly mobile functional check posts to curb smuggling in this region. He said that new check posts would tackle smuggling through this route. In the beginning of February, different security agencies along with Customs Intelligence and Investigation urged to improve coordination and cooperation by setting up a new Layyah Checkpoint for mutual needs and to tackle smuggling and terrorism he said.

He said that the improved coordination and assistance between the law enforcement agencies would advance and enhance the capacity of Customs in the region to fulfill their task more efficiently and effectively.

Additional Director Nisar Ahmad said that the mobile check posts would be a joint venture of army, Excise and Taxation, Police and Customs department. The army has a major role in the formation of these mobile check posts, he said.

He said that these check posts will shift randomly towards any place to curb smuggling; army has given us the role in the set up of mobile check posts for the elimination of unlawful movements from this route. He said Customs Intelligence will give army assistance through their relative information about smuggled vehicles and unwanted items used in terrorism so that army would counter terrorism to protect our nation.

Mr.Nisar said that army did not involved Customs Intelligence and Investigation initially but after sharing of information on smuggled vehicles in that area army thinks that Customs Intelligence and Investigation has a vital role in the region for curtailing smuggled vehicles and goods.

Newly established check posts in Layyah region would not affect the performance of Border Military Police, as they would perform anti smuggling operations in the surrounding of Baluchistan Punjab border and establishment of these Check posts will restrict the smuggler and tackle explosive material in this region through mutual support of different departments he expressed.

Customs Intelligence and Investigation is a major agency to control anti smuggling operation in the region so Customs Intelligence and Investigation would cooperate and coordinate timely for joint operation against smuggled vehicles and miscellaneous goods he urged.

Mr. Nisar believed that Customs Intelligence and Investigation would assist the army to curb the smuggling of weapon and explosive material in the region .He said that Customs Intelligence and Investigation is already working with military force of border and Police in Sakhi Sarwar and Dera  Ghazi Khan to restrain smuggling in the region.
