Customs internal audit points out recoverable Rs200 million

KARACHI: The Directorate of Internal Audit (Customs)-Karachi Region has detected and pointed out around Rs200 million of recoverable amount through 87 audit reports during the year2013-14, it was learnt here on Saturday.

The Directorate of Internal Audit-Karachi Region in the year 2013-14 has sent 14 audit reports to MCC-Appraisement (West) of pointed out amount of Rs3285.69 million; 9 audit reports of pointed out amount of Rs8205.05 million to MCC-Appraisement (East); 9 audit reports of Rs1392.86 million to MCC-Port Muhammad Bin Qasim; 13 audit reports of Rs2177.78 million sent to MCC-Preventive; four audit reports of Rs1521.29 million has sent to MCC-Exports; one audit report of Rs 6.015 million has been sent to MCC-Exports (Port Qasim); five audit reports of Rs7.88 million has been sent to the Directorate of Intelligence and Investigation, two audit reports of Rs188.15 million has been sent to the Directorate of Intelligence & Investigation-Quetta;10 audit reports of Rs577.54 million to the MCC-Quetta; 9 audit reports of Rs 2880 million has been sent to MCC-Hyderabad, four audit reports of Rs0.12 million has been sent to MCC-Gwadar; one audit report of Rs3.210 million has been sent to the Directorate of Customs Valuation; one audit report of Rs1.255 million has been sent to the Directorate of Training & Research; three audit reports of Rs19.286 million has been sent to the Directorate of Post Clearance Audit (PCA)-Karachi and two audit reports of Rs0.625 million has been sent to the Collector of Customs (Appeals) by the Directorate of Internal Audit (Customs)-Karachi in the year 2013-14.

The sources in the Directorate of Internal Audit informed Customs Today that the amount of around Rs30million has been recovered overall by all the collectorates and directorates out of total pointed out amount which was nearly around Rs200 million in the year2013-14. “The pointed out amount through audit reports has been forwarded to the respective collectorates and directorates in the first month of the year 2014. However; amount around of Rs30million has been recovered in last 10 months,” they added.

Responding to a query, the sources informed this scribe that the lukewarm approach by the authorities concerned of the directorates and collectorates created hindrance in recovering the detected amount pointed out by the Directorate of Internal Audit (Customs) Karachi.

It is pertinent to mention here that the Directorate of Internal Audit (Customs)-Karachi Region had pointed out an amount of Rs130 million approximately in the year2012-13 against some 25 cases from all collectorates and directorates. Similarly, the Directorate of Internal Audit had pointed out an amount of Rs115 million approximately in the year 2011-12 against some 67cases.
