KARACHI: The Directorate General of Customs Internal Audit has detected irregularities of around Rs 230 million in the clearance of import consignments of auto-parts, plastic granules, cloth and electronics, it is learnt.
Sources told Customs Today that the Internal Audit, following the directions of Director Muhammad Imtiaz Ahmed, has finalised the audit-paras related to the imported consignments of auto-parts, plastic granules, cloth and electronics involving duties and taxes of millions of rupees.
The sources informed that the officers of the department have completed the entire work in connection with audit-paras and submitted to the director.
Replying to a query, the sources further disclosed that the director would present the current status of prepared audit-paras before the Director General Dr Owais Agha Jawwad for final approval.
“After the approval of the prepared audit-paras involving millions of rupees by the DG, the same would be forwarded to the respective collectorates for settlements,” the sources added.
They said that the department would further unearth the embezzled amount and forwarded the audit-paras to the DG for approval, adding that working has been expedited to find the tax evasion on clearance of various imported consignments. They added that all possible measures will be taken to plug revenue leakage.
It may be mentioned here that Imtiaz Ahmed has asked the officers to prepare the audit-paras regarding the post-dated cleared consignments of ‘plastic dana’ during the last three years from all three field formation collectorates, including Customs Appraisement-West, East and Customs Port Qasim.
