DHAKA: Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate in Comilla has recently introduced a car pass system for the goods-laden vehicles crossing Indo-Bangla border through the two land ports.
As a preventive measure to counter revenue leakage, the system was introduced for the two land custom stations–Bibir Bazar and Akhaura under Comilla commissionerate on September 1 while Agartala of Tripura is the Indian side of these two land custom stations.
The customs authority has undertaken the initiative following a decision made at the 4th Joint Group of Customs (JGoC) Commissioner Level meeting between Bangladesh and India held on 26-27 July 2015 in Sylhet.
The car passes will be given to the truck drivers and the helpers to facilitate loading and unloading of goods in the frontier areas.
The passes will include pictures, truck numbers, address of truck owners, chassis and engine numbers of the trucks and detail about the drivers helpers of the trucks entering the ports of two countries along with detail of the imported and exported goods, said officials.
Currently, the car pass system is being used at Benapole-Petrapole crossing and several other land ports in the Eastern zone of the country to expedite the release of goods.
