Customs JIAP foils attempt to smuggle foreign currency

KARACHI: Collectorate of Customs Jinnah International Airport (JIAP) foiled an attempt to smuggle foreign currency on September 4, 2024,

Sources said that two passengers, Muntazir Mehdi and Muhammad Kashif, were intercepted at the international departure hall of Jinnah International Airport, Karachi. They were traveling to Dubai on PIA flight PK-213.

During a routine luggage scan, the passengers declared they were carrying foreign currency in their shoulder pouches, amounting to AED 104,500 and USD 100. They intended to use this money to purchase videography equipment in Dubai.

Given the circumstances and the passengers’ transparency, the authorities seized the currency for further legal proceedings.

The operation was initiated under the special instructions of Collector Adeem Khan, who had directed Additional Collector Faisal Khan to enhance surveillance at the airport. Acting on these directives, Additional Collector Faisal Khan instructed Deputy Collector Hammad to maintain enhanced vigilance.
